The Fruits of the Spirit 19th May
Christian faith is often depicted as a tree. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are like the roots and the fruits are the evidence of a healthy tree. St Paul reminds us of the effects of the Holy Spirit, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” (Gal: 5:22).
The Acts of the Apostles opens a window for us into a radical way of life of an early Christian community. They shared what they had, they gave to those in need, and they gathered together to “break the bread” and to give praise to God. They were like family to one another. This group of Christians demonstrated the fruits of the Holy Spirit and witnessed to their faith in Christ. Their way of life was attractive to others and many wanted to join them.
Mary conceived Jesus, the fruit of her womb, through the power of the spirit. By her actions she courageously witnessed to the Spirit alive in her.
How do we witness? How do we live? What are our values? Do we use the gifts we have been given by the Holy Spirit? The most effective way to witness is often without words.
Let us pray……..
May the Spirit of peace and gentleness bear fruit in our lives..
May the Spirit of goodness and kindness be on our lips and in our hearts.
May the Spirit of love and joy be visible in our greeting of one another. Amen.
