Rosary meditation – Waiting with Mary
Today is the vigil of Pentecost where the whole Church is praying for a fresh outpouring of the Spirit, and so I invite you to revisit the third glorious mystery of the rosary, the coming of the Holy Spirit.
As you pray this decade of the rosary you can imagine that you are in the Upper Room praying with the disciples. This is what the artist Arcabas has imagined in his image.
In this image you can see that Mary is at the centre of the gathering. She is confidently leading the disciples in prayer. The small gathered Church is waiting with Mary.
You will also notice that the word of God is placed on the floor, as if they have just listened to God’s word together.
Perhaps it was these words from the prophet Joel that they listened to:
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old will dream dreams,
your young will see visions.
When you look at this picture you are drawn into the sense of expectation in the gathering that something new is going to happen.
And so in your meditation today you could simply wait, wait with Mary, imagining that you are one of the disciples, you are in the room with the gathering, hoping for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
As you live with this today you can return often to this prayer: ‘Come Holy Spirit”
